Iron & Wine – Kiss Each Other Clean

February 7, 2011

Most of you are probably familiar with Mr. Sam Beam of Iron & Wine. Yeah, he’s that dude with the massive beard. Kiss Each Other Clean is the 4th studio album from Iron & Wine. Not only their 4th album, but there are many other EPs & a couple of live albums available dating back to 2002. However, none of those quite sound like this one.

People that enjoy only traditional folk music, may not like this new album by Mr. Beam. This new album has saxophones and some funk in some of the songs. That’s right, I said F-U-N-K. Mr. Beam is bringing you music that he describes as “mid-70s FM radio-friendly” music. It is definitely something unlike anything I’ve ever heard before. I really enjoyed the album & enjoyed hearing the 1st ever funk-folk song in “Big Burned Hand.”

Now the only question for all the Iron & Wine fans is: Is this album better than 2007’s The Shepherd’s Dog? Some will say yes, some will say no. I will say to you, decide for yourself. Either way, overall, it is an impressive album.

I give Iron & Wine – Kiss Each Other Clean, 7.9/10
