Peaking Lights – 936

March 7, 2011

After visiting Gorilla vs Bear’s website one day, I ran across a song posted by Chris. He said, “…It’s definitely one of the coolest records we’ve heard this year.” I listened to the song “Tiger Eyes” & then immediately went to the band’s website, Not Not Fun, to order the album. The song was THAT good. That & I always put faith in the opinion of Chris from G vs. B.

About 1 week later, I received the album, no invoice, no promos, just the CD. The CD didn’t even have a booklet, was very minimal & the only thing it listed was the album song titles. A little unusual for a small label, but I didn’t worry about it. I then played it for the 1st time. It was just as great as I had hoped. Not Not Fun is calling 936, a “groove-wave classic.” I’m not sure what exactly all that means but I would probably have to agree. I’ve been diggin’ this album ever since I got my hands on it. If you like any song on 936, you are probably going to like them all. If not…. I guess that’s ok, just don’t say it to my face. I recommend you get your hands on a copy of this STAT & enjoy the dub-style hazed vibes of Peaking Lights.

I give Peaking Lights936, 8.6/10
