Chromatics – Kill For Love [Album of the month]

May 25, 2012

I’ve been sitting on this review for some time & this is my album of the month for April. If you’ve been keeping up with new stuff this year, you’ve probably already heard of Kill For Love. Just one of Johnny Jewel’s bands that plays dark disco, chilling synth-pop, or underground electronic….  Call it what you like, this band is one to be heard.

A lot of you new to the band, may have 1st heard about the group when I did last year on the Drive soundtrack. Not only was that a fantastic film, the soundtrack was also excellent. Johnny Jewel was approached to score the film, but his music was later scrapped & they instead used Cliff Martinez to score the film. Since Johnny had all that unused material, he added to it & re-worked some tracks & then released it under the moniker Symmetry as Themes For An Imaginary Film. You can listen to the almost 2 hour album when you have that much time here: (can also be purchased on itunes)

The Chromatics’ Kill For Love starts out boldly with a Niel Young cover & just keeps getting better from there.

I enjoy listening to this album at night or out for a drive at night. Maybe that is just me associating the music with the movie Drive. No matter the reason, this is one of my favorite albums of the year & strongly encourage you all to check it out. Listen to a couple more of my favorite tracks from the album below.
