Goodbye LCD Soundsystem

July 19, 2012

April 2nd 2011, LCD Soundsystem plays its final show at Madison Square Garden in New York. The end of great run by a great band. A bittersweet ending, I hated to see them call it quits, but loved that they went out on an extremely high note.

I was fortunate enough to catch a single viewing of ‘Shut Up & Play The Hits‘ last night at our local indie theater, The Moxie, with a couple good friends. (and also big LCD Soundsystem fans) ‘Shut Up & Play The Hits,’ for those not familiar with the film, is a documentary about the band’s end & it’s final show.

The documentary was everything I hoped it would be. About 2/3 of the film was just footage of the epic final concert, while the other 1/3 of the film follows around lead singer James Murphy & shows bits of a final interview with him.

I “danced myself clean” in my seat, laughed, and then tried harder not to dance in my seat, and then laughed some more. Then, towards the end the film, they zoomed in on a guy in the audience just watching the concert & letting the tears flow…. & they showed him at least 4-5 times. So, I laughed even more.

I’d like to take this time to thank James Murphy & all of LCD Soundsystem for putting together 3 great albums & making me feel like I had to dance every single time I listened to their music. Also a big thanks to The Moxie for showing the documentary & bringing a memorable experience for all of us LCD Soundsystem fans that came out to see it.

All 3 of their albums are fantastic. If you need to start with 1, you can’t really go wrong with any, but I’ll recommend their exceptional final album, This Is Happening. (my #2 favorite album of 2010!)

Also, check out what some Brits put together in the streets of Brighton. An LCD Soundsystem performance of “Dance Yourself Clean,” by….. A BUNCH OF MUPPETS!!!
